VeggieTales' Robin Good DVD / Review and Giveaway

VeggieTales: Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men - DVD
Release Date: March 6, 2012
Running Time: 45 minutes
Lesson: Handling Hurt

The story goes something like this: A long time ago, in the faraway town of Bethlingham, roved a band of merry men, led by the fearless Robin Good. Their mission: to help people by fundraising from the rich and giving to the poor!  But when a greedy Prince starts stealing the townspeople’s hams, donations are down and Robin’s friends take off and decide to give robbing from the rich a try. Feeling rejected, Robin thinks things can’t get any worse, until he finds out that the ham-hoarding Prince has also captured his friends. Can Robin overcome his own hurt, rescue his friends and restore the townspeople’s hope?  Find out in this fun Veggie story where kids learn that there’s no hurt too big for God!

VeggieTales' Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men  is a fun parody that features plenty of high-energy, family-friendly music, including a new Silly Song with a theme that was selected through a recent Facebook fan contest.

The DVD starts out with “Lenny and The Lost Birthday” which is an adorable short episode about Lenny (Junior Asparagus) who thinks everyone has forgotten his birthday.  He goes through his day hoping someone--anyone--will remember it's his birthday! When it's obvious no one does remember, he's very hurt, and a little mad. His mom, realizing that her boy is hurting, explains why this year his birthday is one day later than usual...it's Leap Year!  Mom is able to convey to Lenny through the song, Things Will Get Better, that he's loved everyday, no matter what happens, by her and of course by God!

The silly song on this DVD, Bubble Wrap, brings the "BITS"-- Boys in the Sink--back out of the crisper with a fresh style make-over, but with the same awesome vegetable boy band sound which we love!

The animation is beautifully done, and the music is great.  But as a parent, what I still love the most about VeggieTales is that they continue to write stories with messages I can (and do) resource when teaching my own children lessons about applying our Biblical worldview to our daily lives! Does God really care when I'm hurting?  Does He really listen to me when I'm feeling all alone?  Is there ever a hurt too small or too big for God?  You can bet your kids have these questions!  Heck, I've asked these same questions...!!  Whether or not you think raising a child "takes a village", I certainly (still) appreciate the Biblical truths that VeggieTales continues to teach kids through their stories!

Robin Good has released in Christian retail as well as most big-box retailers.  You can also hop over to the VeggieTales site and order your own copy, today!  Keep in mind that Easter is rapidly approaching and this DVD would be a great addition to any one's Easter basket!

I'm giving away a copy of Robin Good to ONE person who comments on this blog, under the comments section! This contest will end on April 2, in time for the winner to enjoy this movie for Easter!  Comment...go ahead...it's that easy!!!

A New VeggieTales-- Twas the Night Before Easter

My friends at Big Idea have a brand new release just in time for Easter!  VeggieTales' Twas the Night Before Easter-- In stores NOW!

It’s Easter time in Crisper County and cable news reporter Marlee Meade (Petunia Rhubarb) is hunting for a way to help others. On a tip that the old town theater will be shut down, Marlee cooks up a plan to save the stage and make a difference through the power of musical theater. With a cast of costume-clad townies, massive props and a 20-foot robot rabbit – “Up With Bunnies” is hatched! There’s only one thing missing – the star of the show!
When news spreads that singing sensation Cassie Cassava is arriving to perform in her hometown church’s Easter service, Marlee gets worried. Concerned about the competition, she schemes to steal the starlet for her own pageant! But when things go haywire, will it be curtains for Marlee’s dreams – or will she discover the true meaning of Easter.
In true Veggie fashion, there is always a message in their story.  The verse used to teach the lesson in this episode is, Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
In the end we learn that the best way to help someone is to just simply… help them.  Find out what their needs are and then serve them.  Bob and Larry learn that while candy and plastic eggs are fun, Jesus and what He did for us is the MOST important aspect of Easter! Because (like one of the songs in the show says…) when we think about Easter, we think about God’s love!
Written and directed by Mike Nawrocki, and starring the usual cast of Veggies (many who are voiced by Phil Vischer), including some older veggie friends we haven’t seen in awhile.  This episode also introduces us to a new Veggie friend, Cassie Cassava, voiced by American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle.
Great story and music which will be enjoyed by the whole family! Recommended for all ages!
VeggieTales has teamed up with Christian charity World Vision as part of this particuar campaign. The partnership will focus on building a greater awareness of how families can help care for those in need with opportunities to sign up for child sponsorships through World Vision at WorldVision.org, as well as in person at numerous Christian retail stores across the country.
Get your copy of VT Twas the Night Before Easter at your favorite retailer, Christian bookstore, or directly through the Big Idea online store.

VeggieTales' It's A Meaningful Life --New Release!

**Today I'm offering a FREE combo DVD set to one lucky reader, just in time for Christmas!!  It will have VeggieTales' St. Nicholas AND It's a Meaningful Life!  To enter to win this set, simply comment after this post and tell me what you love about VeggieTales'! (Winner will be chosen randomly).**

What if my life had taken a different direction? What if I had made different choices? Where would I be, today? Happier? More fulfilled? Would my life have had a clearer meaning or more purpose?

I admit this is a strange way to begin a movie review. Especially since I’m reviewing the newest VeggieTales’ episode, IT’S A MEANINGFUL LIFE. But when you sit with your kids and watch this particular Christmas-themed episode, you’ll understand exactly what I’m talking about. It’s a pre-school show that just might get the moms and dads thinking along the lines of, What if?... And then, using God’s Word, perhaps answer those very soul-searching questions.

Now, on with the show!

It’s a Meaningful Life, starts sometime in the past. Stewart (Larry the Cucumber) aka: The Green Machine, was playing the biggest football game of his life! His whole future was riding on his performance in last the few seconds of this game! But, instead of leaving the field as a hero, he left the field injured. Someone else, by pure coincidence, became the hero that day. That one moment in time changed Stewart’s life-plan, forever!

Move ahead to present day; Stewart is married to the lovely Donna (Petunia Rhubarb). They have been blessed with a beautiful family and live in a modest home located in the same town in which they grew up, Rockwell. Stewart, who once dreamed of leaving Rockwell, for his own fame and fortune, has instead settled into this life and taken over his father’s toy train manufacturing business.

While Stewart’s life seems happy enough, there is a piece of his heart that lacks true contentment. One of the most poignant moments in the movie, is the prayer that Stewart prays, as he feels his life no longer has meaning. “God, why did I end up like this...I was going to do something... special...instead I’ve ruined everything...”

He literally embarks on an incredible journey, hopping on the “What If Express”, which enables him to see a glimpse of what his life would be like IF that football game had ended the way he had always hoped.

Stewart learns that his life is part of God’s plan, and his life has greatly impacted the lives of so many others!Especially his own wife and children! He learns that God’s plan for our lives is truly the perfect plan...and that our lives are, indeed, meaningful when we follow that plan.

Finally, he learns contentment.

“I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for good and not disaster; plans to give you a future filled with hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

Maybe it’s my age. Hmmm...where DID my 30’s go, anyway? Maybe it’s the fact that I have asked those very same “What if”questions a lot more frequently over the last few years. Whatever it is, I highly recommend this episode for the entire family!! This is one DVD that you’re definitely going to want to enjoy with the kids!

VeggieTales', It’s a Meaningful Life is such a well made, well written and beautifully produced show. Yeah, I’m a fan, and you probably wouldn’t expect me to say anything too negative-- but I was truly blessed by the theme in this particular story! Director, Brian Roberts, did a fab job in the driver's seat of this episode!

The music in this show is great! Kudos once again to Kurt Heineke for the score, and Mike Nawrocki and Mark Steele who once again knocked it out of the park with their great lyrics! Oh, and Moms, you’re going to crack up at the Silly Song, Goodnight Junior.  Although, my personal favorite is the song, Precious Girl.  Losing my dad last year, this song brought me back to the times when I was a little girl and relied on my own dad to make whatever problem I was dealing with, go away.  There's just a special bond between little girls and their daddy's.  Great song!

Once again, the people at Big Idea have joined forces with one of Christian entertainment’s top names! This time, Steven Curtis Chapman. His beautifully written song, Meant To Be, which plays over the credits, will have you tearing up as you think about how very special to God your own precious children are, and how He has a master plan already in place for each of their lives!

This Christmas season, Big Idea has also partnered with the Steven Curtis Chapman Foundation, Show Hope. This organization has a heart and a mission to care for orphans around the world. They help fund adoptions and even provide life-saving medical care when needed. A truly amazing organization, which YOU can help over this Christmas season! For more information, go here.

It's a Meaningful Life can be purchased at all Christian retailers and many general retailers. Here's a $3 OFF coupon that can be applied to your order! You can also just stay at your computer and simply order this episode at the Big Idea website, here

Be sure to add your comment below as to why you love VeggieTales, and you'll be automatically entered to win a DVD set containing BOTH St. Nicholas AND It's a Meaningful Life!!

Full disclosure: I received my copy of VeggieTales' It's a Meaningful Life from Big Idea Productions, Inc. and receive no monetary compensation for reviewing this product.

Phil Vischer teaches us What's In the Bible

When I mention Phil Vischer, what do you immediately envision?  A tomato, perhaps? A group of vegetables that can sing, hop, and tell Bible stories?  Well, yes, you're right...that's probably what most of us think about when we hear Phil's name! VeggieTales creator, aka Bob the Tomato.

But Phil has been hard at work for the last several years, since the 2003 Bankruptcy that forced him to sell Big Idea Productions.  Just what has he been up to, you ask? Well, doing more of what God has called him to do...create relevant, Biblically based children's entertainment that teaches kids about God.

With the 2008 launch of his online network variety show, JellyTelly , we were introduced to a new cast of characters.  Not a vegetable among them!! No, these players are all puppets!  This troop is held together by their front man...er... front puppet, Buck Denver ; TV anchorman and all around good guy who helps answer questions sent in from real children, as well as clarify some lesson objectives, and fix some sticky situations that the lovable, quirky cast of characters seem to get themselves into during the daily shows.

These puppets personify several different real-person types that kids will both love and be able to relate to.  From the humorous Dr. Schniffenhousen; to the very knowledgable, grandmotherly Sunday School Lady; to Michael, who is...a kid.   This wonderful puppet-cast of characters also star in Phil's newest project, WHAT'S  IN THE BIBLE.

WHAT'S IN THE BIBLE (WITB), is truly some of Vischer's best work, to date!  In this series of 13 DVD's, Phil and his wacky Jellyfish characters explore each book of the Bible.  You will be amazed at how much knowledge you and your child can glean from just watching these DVD's!

Oh, and did I mention that the kids will LOVE watching these shows?!  How many five year olds can say "Pentateuch"?  After the second DVD, yours will, and as a bonus he/she will actually know what it is!

What about a completely fun, catchy song that will help them memorize all the Kings of Judah?  Have you heard of the Fabulous Bentley Brothers?  Oh you will...

If you grew up in the 70's, School House Rock, and their lyrically smart songs were just a part of your Saturday morning cartoon routine.  If you're anything like me, even in college I was still signing (in my head) the Preamble of the US Constitution to the tune I learned many years prior through School House Rock.  It was painless, fun, and somehow...it stuck.  This same modality of teaching/ learning is just as effective when applied to God's Word.

As a home schooling parent, part of my curriculum program is a Bible component.  I have yet to find a curriculum which is both entertaining and truly educational!  My choices have been Bible cartoons with great story but no educational or historical value; or they are so...what's the word I'm looking for... BORING!  Yes, very, very boring, dry, beat-it-into-your-head Bible history, boring.  Sort of painful for most kids to get through.  Sort of painful for most adults to get through, too!

This year we will begin using Phil Vischer's WITB, as our elementary curriculum.  I will add some art projects, and Bible memory verses, but I guarantee it will be a course where my second grader learns about God's Word, His story and His history!  Not painful in the least, very educational, and I'll even look forward to popping in the DVD and sitting alongside my son, as we have class!  Not bad!!

This isn't to say that WITB can't be thoroughly enjoyed without using the DVD's as a school course. Entertainment with a message;  that's really how they were designed to be enjoyed.  I'm just tweaking things...as usual. You know me!!

There are three DVD's already released in this 13 DVD series, and the fourth will release in October 2010. To order or watch a trailer go to the links provided:

Here's Phil talking about the series and, well,... What's in the Bible...

New VeggieTale's DVD Released this week!!

I was once told that to find contentment in everyday life, find something you love doing, and then figure out a way to earn money while doing it. That's a lot harder than it sounds. In fact, I am just barely getting an understanding of how to apply that concept in my own life. But I have found a ministry in which I can utilize that philosophy, almost fully. I am lucky enough to be counted as one of a few Big Idea (VeggieTales') Ambassadors. What that means, is that I get to "spread the word" about new and upcoming shows, plan church events and talk about all the current promotions! It's fun! It's a lot of work, too!!... and guess what? I don't get a dime for it!! Why on earth would I do such a thing? Well...

I love VeggieTales! My children have literally grown up watching these wonderfully-witty, heart-warming shows. Before my husband accepted Christ into his life, he learned MOST of his Bible stories from VeggieTales (ok, I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not, but it IS true.) If you are unfamiliar with this children's media property, I encourage you to check out some of their work. It is all written from a Biblical perspective / worldview. That being said, it isn't in-your-face preachy or self righteous. A healthy mix of Bible stories (mostly taken from the Old Testament), parodies of other pop-culture or classic literature, and some good old fashioned values-based lessons. The stories are relevant, as are the lessons taught. The cast of characters are, in fact, vegetables who have their own inherent personality traits. I know... it sounds weird if you haven't a clue of what I'm talking about, but trust me, you'll forget you are watching a tomato talk within the first few minutes of the show!

These shows are written for kids, but adults will find them just as entertaining! Check them out! Let me know what you think...

This week a new DVD was released, Pistachio~The Little Boy That Woodn't. A story that not only parodies the classic Pinocchio story, but also uses the parable of the Lost sheep and Good Shepherd to support the theme of, listening (obeying) your parents. Just like our Heavenly Father loves us and knows what's best for us, so do our parents...who love us so very much!

Go to http://www.bigidea.com/ to order your copy of Pistachio and check out some of the other titles that may be missing from your home library! There are always great specials on this web site!! The DVD can be purchased at any major retailer or at your local Christian bookstore. This week, Family Christian Stores will be featuring this title at $12.97 and LifeWay Christian Stores will be offering it for $12.99.
